instantaneous (in)sanity :: Jess C Scott

Finishing a project…

is a lot harder than starting it, LOL. But yeah, it’s still got to be done.

I was running into some problems, more of the back portion of the book. But got it fixed a little more (this is so like solving mathematical problem sums…I’m talking about E Maths, not A Maths, because A Maths was just so bloody useless for day-to-day life. That whole dy/dx nonsense? Out of my brain, wheeee…).

Towards completing the end of something, I sometimes tend to get a bit tired/distracted/ “lazy” (maybe lazy without the quotes too. This is what happens when you repeat too often to yourself - “I’m A Lazy Sod!!”…while listening to that song by the Sex Pistols, haha). I *have* been wanting to catch up on some reading, and finish Tomb Raider Anniversary. That game rocks. As thrilling as when I first played it all those years back in ‘99 or earlier, wahaha.

Thanks for the well wishes. I’m doing my best not to let y’all (myself, especially) down.

SELL-OUT!

* Sell-out = music for commercials, becoming mainstream pop when you actually were a proper rock band, having a Britney Spears dance routine in your latest music video, when you originally claim to be “the anti-Britney” at the start of your career (and don’t even get me started on that whole Sid Vicious comparison-quote!). Unless you’re Mick Jones who has a really nice view of what constitutes a sell-out :P.

I don’t know why this whole week seems to be a major band-dissing week for me. And normally, I won’t be bothered to write something like this, but maybe it’s coz I got In Utero (Nirvana) and Jimi Hendrix this year, and the other day, I was at a store wandering about when this song came on the radio (classic hits station), and I went “hey, isn’t that the riff from Fell In Love With A Girl, by the White Stripes?!”

Here is the White Stripes’ Fell In Love With A Girl - hook is at 00:52mins.

Here are Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Dani California, which sounds a little TOO similar, to the original by Tom Petty.

Here’s Mary Jane’s Last Dance, by Tom Petty. At 3:49mins and 7:48min, the riff is exactly the same as with the White Stripe’s song (except that the WS version is a lot faster and it’s more of a tune than riff, but you can hear the Joss Stone cover, which has the riff, right at the start and at 00:39mins).

Now of course bands copy and steal from other musicians, and so do many writers, artists, etc. But there *is* a difference with copying and being influenced, and there’s only one original!

Tom Petty, The Who, The Clash, The Ramones…damn, I’ve a lot of catching up to do.

So…

I got a “Best Of” by The Doors and Aretha Franklin…next up are the RAMONES…I think I’ve a CD of theirs somewhere around though (and the CD is not mine!).

You know, I think this website is hell of a disorganised. But I’m in no mood to actually fix it just yet. The very nice part about blogspot is that you can upload your pix straight away. With wordpress.com I’m not too sure, but there’s more limits than to wordpress.org. But with wordpress.org you either have to keep storing all your pix on your own server, or get picassa/photobucket/one of those…and that’s just a tad bit more irritating than the user-friendliness of blogspot. Then of course there’s livejournal but that whole community “friends of” etc thing isn’t for me.

AAAAAAARGH.

I read “The Fisherman and His Soul” by Oscar Wilde last night, and while the ending leaves me a little puzzled, it wasn’t a let-down, unlike some other things this week. Ugh. Two words: Icky Thump.

Alright. I’ll try to clean this place up/have it more organized once I’m done with what I’ve to do, lalalalala.
